Dear Mama Dukes and Papa Bear,
After talking to Candy (my sister), I realized that it was fairly easy to make enough money to pay for school. However, after years of your preaching that virginity is a sacred concept, I decided to use mine to my advantage. I plan on auctioning my sacred gift on internet so that I can better my future. Ten thousand men have already made bids, and the highest thus far is going for 3.7 million dollars. With such money, I can pay off my schooling and live comfortably while I prepare for my career. If millions of women can sell their services for minimal money on a daily basis, I can certainly gain more by selling something that can only be given once.

1. Bitzer says that rhetorical situation is not a form of communication. In other words, the audience does not need full understanding of a topic in order to understand rhetorical situations. Rhetorical situation is also a result of certain situations, rather than anonymous speech.
2. He defines a rhetorical situation as discourse between two or more beings, which must include conversation that in turn affects the outcome of the following situation.
3. Exigence is defined as "imperfection by urgency". Basically, it is a situation when you must urgently persuade someone or talk your way out of the situation. For instance, if you witness someone doing something wrong, exigence is what drives you to speak out and resolve the situation.

Homework #5
The argument that I found most interesting is the problem with Specialization in Universities. The authors viewed specialization of subjects as a legitimate problem because of several effects it has on its graduates. One problem with studying a sole subject is the lack of general knowledge gained towards other subjects. As in the Humpty Dumpty analogy, when a person studies only certain pieces of knowledge, they may later find it difficult to piece together solutions to a problem. Specializing fields can also create competition between civilians studying the same subjects in the social world. This being the case, many professors believe that every student should have a well-rounded general knowledge of every subject.
I find this belief to be a bit optimistic. The idea of every citizen obtaining a wealth of knowledge is desirable, but our society today makes this goal exceptionally difficult to reach. The truth is that most people would benefit from focusing their studies in one field. And if everyone can master their specified subjects, rather than just collect a range of general education, then perhaps society can progress more rapidly then if each individual were to work alone.

Homework #3
Bartholomae says that students must "invent the university" in reference to the fact that they must write from the perspective of a professional in that feild. Do not just regurgitate information, a good student thoroughly analyzes information and creates their own ideas through basic knowledge of material. To be considered an "insider", one must study and mimic the behaviors of those that interact in their desired social environment.
As for the readings, the piece about football socks was notably dry and far from entertaining. Bartholomae, however, acknowledges that the writer did their job and created an organized piece of writing. He perceives creativity as an intellectual way of being original. The second piece was much more captivating and easier to read, although the writer claims to lack creativity. Bartholomae praises the writer's ability to succesfully tell a story and fully describe an experience.

The article I chose holds the following elements of an argument:
It obviously holds a claim, as previously explained in our first assignment. It holds warrant in stating that a company's name must captivate the customer's attention, for most people are attracted to catchy phrases that stand out from the norm. The data presented was a list of bad company names, each followed with brief grounds as to why the name choice was poor.
